A Ukrainian fighter jet has crashed during air-force exercises with NATO countries, killing two pilots, Ukraine's military says.

'A Sukhoi-27 plane crashed at around 5 p.m. local time during a training flight,' the Armed Forces General Staff said in a statement on October 16, adding that 'the bodies of the two pilots have been found.'

The circumstances of the crash, which occurred between the towns of Khmilnyk and Berdychiv, have yet to be clarified, it added.

Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat said earlier that the Su-27 was taking part in the 12-day-long Clear Sky 2018 war games that are being held in western Ukraine.

The United States and seven other NATO countries are taking part in the drills.
