Stephen F. Austin has pulled out of Wednesday's tipoff tournament in Connecticut after a member of the Lumberjacks' traveling party tested positive for COVID-19.
The Lumberjacks were scheduled to play San Francisco at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville for their first game of the 2020-21 season. The MTE (multiple-team events) Tournament at Bubbleville is one of several events held at different pods.
"While no players or coaches have tested positive, it was out of an abundance of caution that tournament officials determined that SFA should not continue with the tournament," Stephen F. Austin said in a statement Tuesday.
The entire team was tested Monday upon its arrival in Uncasville.
"While not an ideal situation for our players, coaches or fans, the decision of the tournament officials is one rooted in caution and a desire to not directly place student athletes, coaches or staff in harm's way," Stephen F. Austin said. "Separate travel arrangements will be made for the individual who has tested positive so as to limit further exposure to student athletes or staff."
The Lumberjacks were scheduled to play the Dons at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday and then Towson in an afternoon game on Thanksgiving.
Stephen F. Austin's next scheduled game is against D-III Hardin-Simmons on Dec. 2.
